Since the beginning of the new year, several meetings have taken place about what was the best possible outcome for the Oak Grove Island marina. It seemed that there was no clear way to monetize the marina parcel and preserve the yacht club as it sits. Both things required attention and needed a dependable revenue source that wasn't in place at the time.
It was decided that the best thing for the community was not to purchase the two parcels. That would burden some homeowners with paying for both amenities that they may never ever use. A user fee for both amenities was decided to be the most self-sufficient route to take. Repairs to the marina are already underway, including stabilizing and decreasing the arms of the marina to provide 200 feet of boat parking. The lift rails are being examined to assure stability with a goal of being able to accommodate larger vessels. The lifts themselves will be replaced with a more modern system to reduce maintenance. Clean-up around the yacht club building has also begun, which will include a fresh coat of paint to the building itself, as well as a newly paved marina and yacht club parking area. A new key system will be implemented and there will be no monthly rental boat slips available for in-water docking.

This new marina will allow homeowners to access the waterways conveniently again, this time with updated and reliable equipment, as well as stable docking. I believe the home values of Oak Grove Island will also benefit from this project, being that there will be virtually a brand new marina in the backyard of each and everyone's homes.
